Cheshire County Democrats Book Club
We had a good meeting last night to discuss American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, by Jon Meacham. We all enjoyed the book and felt we ended up with a much better understanding of that age in American history. It was interesting to see that one of Jackson's major accomplishments was keeping the Union intact. It was also interesting to see how politics as we know it, began during Jackson's presidency. For March, we will be reading The Devil's Highway: A True Story by Luis Alberto Urrea. Immigration is one of the topics that we haven't yet read about, so we are looking forward to this book. We will meet on Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 PM, in the Food Court at Colony Mill Marketplace. I hope you can join us. For April, we are going to read The Old American, by local author, Ernest Hebert. Future topics that we'd like to read about include Russia, Latin America, and NAFTA. If anyone has a good book to suggest on one of those topics, we'd love to hear about it. Linda Cates
